The Building System Fundamentals workshop provides simple, straight forward information on smart buildings for developers, owners, building designers and property managers. The program covers a general overview and the economics of smart buildings, followed by a description of each of the building technology systems. The descriptions address specific building system topologies and their evolution to standard and open architectures. In addition, facility, maintenance and asset management systems will be addressed. The workshop also covers the technical underpinnings of the smart building. These include structured cable systems, use of wireless networking, standard system databases utilizing SQL and ODBC, and web-enabling the buildings’ technology systems through the use of XML, SDKs and APIs. Session participants will learn the systems that should be part of a smart building, and the issues related to the infrastructure of a smart building.
