LonWorks Educational Workshop

The LonWorks® Workshop track will provide attendees two 3-hour LonMark® Sessions covering the basics of the LonWorks technology platform in the morning—including the reasoning behind distributed control, why a single protocol is a good thing, and how devices have a conversation using LonTalk®—and a more advanced session in the afternoon for those familiar with LonWorks but not yet versed in the role LonMark can play in their designs—including why to design while wearing horse blinders, the logical flow to development, and a walkthrough of the development/certification tools LonMark International provides.

Audience: Device-centric players from both technology and business interested in understanding LonWorks in today's world of smart connected devices.

LonWorks Basics

9:00 - 12:00

Technical LonWorks knowledge for the non-technical and those just wanting to get an idea of what the technology can do—without a sales pitch. The concept of Distributed Control will be discussed (how a network can be built without a master controller) and how LonWorks technology’s media- and industry-independence makes it a robust solution technically as well as in a business/longevity sense. The concept of “logical points of data” will be covered with an overview of the design considerations of a “command-control network” without the “command” part. This session is for everyone interesting in knowing the basics of LonWorks control-networking technology.

13:00 - 16:00

A detailed walk through the essential design considerations of a LonMark device and how to bring it through the process of creation and certification—from profile development to device coding; from construction of resource files to use of the LonMark Certification Tool. This session is for product developers who are already familiar with LonWorks/LonTalk but not familiar with LonMark.
